In September 2013 we stayed at the Buccament Bay resort on the island of St Vincent. It’s a five star resort in an idyllic location. It’s not surprising it gets such rave reviews from people who have stayed there. The staff at Buccament Bay are friendly and helpful. They do everything they can to make guests feel welcome. It’s the excellent staff that turn a really good resort into a really great resort.
The Indigo dive centre is run from the resort and I got a few dives in. Lisa and I also did some snorkeling through a bat cave with the Indigo dive team. Alex and Jay and all the team at Indigo Dive looked after us well. Alex accompanied me on the dives as dive instructor and diving buddy. He’s a knowledgeable guy and he pointed out some of the many sites and sea creatures that can be found around the coast of St Vincent.
The Buccament Bay literature states that they employ world class chefs in their restaurants and I certainly wouldn’t dispute that. The food we had was excellent on every occasion. We had steaks that were cooked to perfection and signature dishes from chefs in the Safran restaurant. And if you get the chance, try out a Jack’s Delight cocktail invented by Sean (or Shawn not sure of the spelling), one of Bucc Bay’s very own bartenders.
Included in the cost of the stay were several trips. We took a sunset cruise. Most days you can see a spectacular sunset but sometimes dolphins will swim with the cruise boat. Unfortunately, on our trip the dolphins didn’t want to play out. We also took a trip to on a location set from the film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean – Curse of the Black Pearl’. That day out also included a trip out to Dark View Falls.
Underwater pictures of St Vincent and The Grenadines marine wild life. Some of these photos are a bit out of focus. This was the first time I used my new underwater housing and I hadn't quite got used to it.
There are two infinity pools (one slightly above and behind the other) on the edge of the resort overlooking the sea.

Our Plunge Pool
All of the garden villas have a plunge pool, sunbeds and a view onto the surrounding countryside. It was absolutely idyllic.
Location
Buccament Bay resort is nestled in a green valley right on the edge of Buccament Bay Village.
Countryside
The surrounding countryside is alive with all kinds of tropical fauna and flora. St Vincent is certainly a very fertile island.
Stormy Skies
It rained a couple of times while we were in Bucc Bay. But the rain was warm and short lived. A cloudy sky over the hills could give the place a moody atmosphere.
Lizard
There were lots of these little guys around. They seemed almost as curious about us as we were about them.
Crab
This little fella was about two inches (5cm) from one side to the other. It was skittering down one side of the pathway when we were walking the other way. It naturally got frightened when I went near it to take a picture and disappeared into some pebbles. I was amazed that it didn't move when I uncovered it again and I could get this picture.
Sunset
Buccament Bay is west facing so we were treated to a beautiful sunset most nights.

The weather around St Vincent can look pretty dramatic even when it's calm
Elephant Rock
This is Elephant Rock. Actually it looks more like an elephant from the shore. This rock was used in one of the scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl. The film was partly shot on location at St Vincent.
A Fake Cave
Using the magic of Hollywood a cover slung from this rock to the cliff face created the cave where the treasure was hidden in Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of The Black Pearl.

Coastal Town
One of the towns along the coast of St Vincent. The coast line is dotted with towns and villages nestled in green valleys.
Leaving Buccament Bay
This photo was taken by the staff just as we were leaving. Everybody at the resort was just brilliant.
Port Royal Jetty
This jetty was built for the film 'Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl'. It was originally much bigger than this but a large portion was destroyed by a hurricane. This is the jetty that Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) landed at at the beginning of the film. The rock on the far right of this picture next to the cliff is Elephant Rock. Jack Sparrow took his hat off to three skeletons of pirates that were hung beneath this rock.
Port Royal Set
This is one of the buildings that was created for the film Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl. It's really just an empty shell but it looks impressive.
Cannons
Some fake cannons that were left at the film set.
Volcano
St Vincent has its own dormant volcano on the north side of the island. This is about the closest we came to it on our way to Dark View Falls
Dark View Falls
The water in this waterfall is not as cold as it looks. There's apparently another even more impressive fall higher up the hillside but it was raining the day we went and the pathway is treacherous so we didn't get to see it.
